This December, the newly opened Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center in Orange County is going to open its doors for everyone with a classical ballet performance.  Well-known artistic director, Melissa Padham-Maass along with the faculty of Warwick Centre for the Performing Arts, is pleased to treat your family’s holiday with the premiere performance of “The Nutcracker”.

For all of you, the two acts are going to mesmerize your imagination with the pearl white snow scenes and captivating dance by the sugar plum fairy. Every bit of the show is iconic to fascinate each and every person in the audience with its charm. With the classic touch of Tchaikovsky, the Nutcracker rules the hearts of Ballet lovers. 

The Nutcracker has a team of over 100 dancers and musicians, bringing the superb dances to its audience. In 2017 and 2018, thousands of audience members made the performance part of their holiday celebrations. Today, its exclusive Moscow versions like “Dove of Peace” and “Great Russian Nutcracker” are loved by many people.  Like all other shows, this event is also going to be one of its best performances.

The Warwick Dance collective, Students from WCPA, Northern Academy of The Arts, Fei Tian College Middletown as well as performers from the community and professional guest artists will come together to present this beautiful traditional Ballet.

About The Nutcracker

The roots of the Nutcracker originate from a fairytale Ballet in two acts based on a family’s Christmas Eve celebration. Originally Choreographed by Meris Petipa,  Alexandre Dumas Peres adapted the story by E.T.A Hoffman and was set to music by Tchaikovsky. The ballet was first premiered a week before Christmas in 1892 and became famously performed around Christmas time. 

The story revolves around a young girl’s Christmas Eve and her awakening to the wider world and romantic love. Since its first performance, held at the Imperial Mariinsky Theatre around the holiday season on December 18, 1892, The Nutcracker gradually reached Theatres outside Russia.

However, The Nutcracker was not an instant success. With its first international performance by San Francisco Opera Ballet in 1944, the ballet gained its popularity in the United States. In 1954, The New York City Ballet popularized the Nutcracker as a holiday tradition.
