15 Mesmerizing Facts about Angel Stadium of Anaheim

1. It began construction in August of 1964; Angel Stadium Anaheim then opened in April of 1966. It is the fourth-oldest stadium in Major League Baseball and is home to the second-oldest ballpark in the United States.
2. The stadium was proudly designed by Robert A.M. Stern, who still works in his field today at the age of 82. In addition, Populous and Walt Disney Imagineering also pitched in. Coincidentally, the stadium opened the same year as Walt’s passing eight months later.

4. Devout fans refer to the stadium as “The Big A.”
5. The stadium seats just over 45,000 fans and have hosted many world-famous baseball games over the years.
6. The stadium originally seated 43,204 people when it first opened.

8. The stadium features a large video screen that measures 36 feet high by 80 feet wide.

10. In 1997, then-owner Disney renamed the stadium “Edison International Field of Anaheim” after agreeing to a naming rights deal with the energy company after purchasing the stadium the year before. In addition, they agreed to pay for 70% of the renovation project.
11. During that same year, then-owner Gene Autry donated the stadium to the City of Anaheim for use as a public park.
12. In 1997, it underwent a $100 million renovation that made it one of the most modern stadiums in America.
13. The stadium underwent another renovation between 2003 and 2005, this time costing $118 million.
14. In 2005, Angels owner Arte Moreno also changed its name back to Angel Stadium of Anaheim.
15. Today, it remains one of the most popular tourist destinations in all of southern California.
