Orange County Events Staff Present the Best Picnic Spots in O.C.
Spring is upon us and with fewer Orange County events planned, many people are wondering how to spend their weekends with the kids. There may not be as many craft fairs, music festivals, or other organized events, but people can still create their own fun outdoors. The warmer temperature and increased daylight hours will make for the perfect picnic weather! Salt Creek Beach Park
If you want an ocean view but don’t quite want to get your feet in the sand, then consider a picnic at Salt Creek Beach Park! This grassy field in Dana Point has an array of picnic tables and open spots for picnic blankets. Shaded spots are far and few between so, be sure to bring your sunscreen or go later in the day. This is a great place to watch the sunset!
Treasure Island Beach Park
For a nice combo of park and beach, visit Treasure Island Beach Park in Laguna Beach. There are plenty of benches overlooking the park and open spots for a towel or blanket. On the South end of the park, there is a long ramp that leads to the sand and rocks below. This is a great place to relax with some food and take pictures!
Galaxy View Park
Newport Beach has an array of beautiful parks to choose from when you’re planning a picnic. One of those is Galaxy View Park, which is named after its open sky view and ability to see the stars at night. Drop by in the late afternoon and watch the sunset. Once the stars come out, whip out your binoculars or telescope. There are tons of restaurants nearby like Xanadu Café and Pop Pie Co. if you want to get takeout on the way home.
Heisler Park
This spot in Laguna Beach is the perfect balance of garden and ocean. From Heisler Park, you can head down to Picnic Beach, Diver’s Cove, Rockpile Beach, or Monument Point Beach for a sandy stroll or stay along the paved path and admire the colorful flowers and foliage. Stop by Zinc Café & Market to get a delicious and portable meal for your picnic.
William R. Mason Regional Park
If you’re hoping for a more expansive park with wildlife, then head inland to William R. Mason Regional Park in Irvine. This park has 339 acres of land, 9 acres of lake, and lots of shady trees. There are numerous hiking and biking trails as well as a playground and gazebo. Bring your favorite snacks and enjoy the beautiful landscape.
Irvine Regional Park
If you live in the city of Orange, then you’ve probably heard of Irvine Regional Park. Its 491-acre land offers beautiful trails, a pond with paddle-boating, a zoo, and the Irvine Park Railroad. This park hosts a variety of seasonal events and family-friendly weekends. Check their schedule on the official website to see what attractions are currently open.
