St. Martin’s Lantern Fest and Parade
St. Martin’s Lantern Fest and Parade is a unique and beautiful event happening November 11th at the Old World Village Festival Hall in Huntington Beach. The Lantern Fest is meant to be a family affair that welcomes in the holiday season and gladdens everyone who takes part in it. This European tradition commemorates the life of Saint Martin, who helped the poor and underprivileged and was a paragon of generosity and kindness.
The Lantern Fest will start with coffee and hot chocolate, cakes, and traditional European pastries. There will be a short performance during which the audience will learn a little about Saint Martin, and then the parade will start. Later on, there will be goulash and hot cider. You will surely leave with both heart and stomach full.
Surfing Santa Competition
The Surfing Santa Competition is probably one of the wilder things to do in Orange County this November. Taking place on the 17th and 18th at Salt Creek Beach in Dana Point, it’s precisely what the name implies. Men, women, and children will dress up as Santa and other holiday characters and show off their surfing skills. The event raises money to help Surfers Healing, which teaches kids with autism how to surf. It’s a worthy cause, and the sight of hundreds of surfing Santas and reindeer is one you’re not likely to forget anytime soon.
Plymouth Rock and Run 5K
If you’re looking for healthier and more challenging things to do in Orange County, this 5K run might just fit the bill. It takes place in Anaheim Hills at the Yorba Regional Park on Thanksgiving Day, the 22nd of November. There is a 5K and a 10K version, as participants will jog around the perimeter of the park and along the Santa Ana River Trail. At the finish line, there will be a silent auction, food, and a costume contest. The event benefits the Reeve-Irvine Research Center at UC.
